Draft intro script for the Valley FM programmes

This is the draft introduction script that we created, for the on-air presenter to read...

Sig tune……tune dips…
Voice:…Gemeenskapsagenda, Gemeenskapsagenda (in Xhosa)…a new way of talking together…
Sig tune up again for 30 secs, and then fades…

Presenter (in Afrikaans): Hello, and welcome to Gemeenskapsagenda. I am …… Gemeenskapsagenda is an exciting new programme on Valley FM. We want to get our whole community talking, in a different kind of way…to discuss common problems and hopefully find common ground about how we should work to implement solutions…

… in Gemeenskapsaganda, we want to move away from blaming and finger-pointing, to a conversation where we all take responsibility for our problems, and for finding solutions together. We want to create a conversation where we can talk to one another respectfully – maybe disagree – but do so in a respectful way. We want to move away from looking at two sides of the story – from for and against, black and white… to looking at three, four or more sides of a story… to looking at a problem from 360 degrees.

In the first series of Gemeenskapsagenda, we will be looking at the problem of education: “Schooling in the Breede Valley – what can we do to improve our children’s education?”

Over a series of 3 weeks, we will look at this from 3 different angles, or questions:

How can we create a good, safe learning environment for our children;
How can we encourage more parent participation in children’s education;
How can we support improved performance of teachers and principals.

This is now it will work:

Once a week we will invite a range of role-players to a meeting, or forum. Here we will discuss the question of the week, and ask the forum participants to consider it from all angles. We will record that forum, and then in the first hour of Gemeenskapsagenda, we will play you that forum, so that you can hear the discussion. After that, we will open the lines and invite you to call in and share your views, together with our in-studio guests...
